DASSANETCH (ETHIOPIA)
Not far from Lake
Turkana, at the mouth of the Omo River, Dr. Abati’s team finds one of
the most isolated warrior tribes of southwest Ethiopia. The Dassanetch
make use of the periodic flooding of the Omo River as part of their
agropastoral economy. Due to their location in isolated lands, the
tribes of this region have not undergone many changes in terms of
social organization. The values of the Dassanetch seem hardly to have
changed since the first visit made by Westerners over a century ago.
Dr. Abati’s team observes the everyday activities of the Dassanetch and
participates in their traditional dances. |
