HIMBA II: SUBSISTENCE,AESTHETICS AND PLAY (ANGOLA)
In
this film, Dr. Abati's team accompanies the Himba on a journey until
sunset. They observe the okumakera, a ritual in which cattle's milk is
offered to the local leader so he can test it before allowing others to
drink. Abati's team watches the Himba's games, which point to the
origin of competitive sports, and analyzes their preoccupation with
body adornment, including the practice of decorating the body with a
mixture of cow fat and ocher iron powder. |
